❤️Our beautiful home has burned down. We lost several beloved cats and everything we own. Please help us begin again.
Update 11/24: some highs and lows.
Cora is requiring a lot of care, not doing great. She has difficulty standing up and we help her back and forth from the litter box to bed. Hand feeding her (see pic). New wounds are appearing on her shoulder and we are treating them and going back to vet tomorrow.
We have been living in a temp air bnb which has been a true comfort but must leave Tuesday.
We had been promised a long term rental/house sit situation from a neighbor who’s a pet owner but she changed her mind about having anyone with pets in the house. She waited until TODAY to share this with us.♀️ Now we are scrabbling to find a new place to live.
Thank you for the support - tomorrow we are getting computers and meeting with the fire investigators again. (Make sure you read about the faulty Amazon product that cause the fire.)
Read updates below including the faulty product Amazon is yet to
remove that took the lives of our beloved and sweet pets lost to the fire: Cubby, Purrfect and Pan.
We were using a newly purchased outdoor heating pad for two stray cats that sleep on the porch. Apparently, it was faulty and caught fire around 2 a.m. (update: the heating pad caused the fire per the Fire Chief Investigation. We also have video of the fire developing. Amazon has RECENT “one star” reviews that include fire incidents and melting of this product. They have been notified by us as well, but the product remains for sale on the website! They have not posted my review that includes my destroyed home & lost pets.
The story: 2am Thursday, my husband heard noises on the roof, crackling, and looked out his window to see flames. He alerted me. I grabbed my dog Toki, my glasses, and phone. We left the back door open and called and called for the cats.
We had to escape our home through the backyard by climbing the fences. We heard one cat crying, and she was okay. Minnie❤️
Another cat, Cora, was brought to us resuscitated and given oxygen. She suffered burns and is at the emergency vet and will need oxygen treatment.
We have lost everything in our home. All gone. Please help us if you can - insurance covers some, but as you know, it will be a struggle.
Thank you,
Adrienne & Jeff
11/22: Cora is home from the emergency vet resting and recovering. We visited our home today (exterior) and the smell of soot was as so strong it makes me immediately sick (nauseated) - I was able to feed my fish in the fish pond, and feed the two outdoor kitties (who lost their porch!) my lovely neighbor is using his generator to run my pond once a day.
Thank you for the prayers and support.
Update: we met with the insurance adjusters today. Our home insured value is about 3/4 of what it will be to rebuild. We are unsure of the total home loss for about 30 days, but updated pictures below.
Fed outdoor strays,
Cora eating a little and Toki rooting for her.
