The Kansas City [and Cactus/symplr] community lost a legend in Greg Hall on January 2nd, 2020, after he suffered a massive heart attack. A true dynamo, Greg never stopped moving or learning.
He ran the Boston Marathon four years and KC's Blue River Road countless times, always surrounded by a like-minded group of friends. While pounding pavement, he found time to write sports commentary and articles for The Kansas City Star, The Pitch, & MoMilesSplit, among others, both online and off. He balanced insightful wit with a healthy dose of the truth.
Like magic, he created hours to photograph and write about high school cross country and track for all of the Greater KC area and Missouri in general: regardless of your skill or speed, of your competitive chances, of whether you were leading or following...Greg covered your accomplishments.
That same artistic eye appeared in his gardens and his poetry, and also occasionally in his sports radio soliloquies, where he gave as good as anyone.
In addition to all of these extra curricular activities, he managed to bring his passion and wit to bear at his full-time job with symplr. Beyond having a hand in vetting and hiring half the staff over the years, Greg was the one who could offer you a shoulder to lean on -- or start a fire under you. Greg did not believe in unearned respect, for himself or anyone else.
His passing creates a hole not only for his family, but for the communities into which he poured so much time and care.
"Dad first and everything else second…and there are a lot of everything elses." -- Greg Hall
