Joie Grenner is 19 years old. On Jan. 2, 2021 Joie was diagnosed with Acute Myoblastic Leukemia with a very rare, very resistant, and very aggressive gene type. She started her journey in October with a diagnoses of mono, & after hospital admissions, blood work, and a drastic decline in health we received the diagnosis of leukemia. Joie spent 75 days at University of chicago where she received chemotherapy where she hit remission then the cancer came back. She received a trial chemotherapy and they let her come home March 16th. On our follow up visit we were told the trial chemo is not working and she still has leukemia cells. Joie needs a stem cell transplant to save her life. She will be admitted April 12th to University of Chicago again where she will receive her chemotherapy then radiation to her bones to destroy the leukemia cells. Once this is complete she will receive a bone marrow transplant from a donor. We have been told she will spend 100 days in Chicago for recovery. I have been a nurse for 27 years at a hospital in Indiana and due to the fact that this is my daughter and not myself I am not eligible to receive any of my benefits. Joie was a student at IUPUI studying nursing. She plants to continue her studies once she is healed and take care of patients that are struggling with her same disease. Joie has been so strong during all of this and her faith in God is only getting stronger. We are so overwhelmingly grateful for the continued support and prayers from our community, family, and friends. We are so grateful for any support.
