Grief: An Everest to Climb
Leah weir 1989-2018
No parent should ever have to bury their child!
Leah faced many demons not least the dark cloud of mental health and depression and yet before she died she spoke of moving beyond the darkness and having a sense of the light. She tried to reach out in her social media to others to encourage them to have courage and hope - I don’t know how she lost her courage and hope on June 3rd 2018 off the coast of France.
At her funeral we sang snowpatrols ‘Run’, Gary Lightbody admits the song was about an accident he had and the importance of the words ‘light up’ as a beacon of hope.
The grief I felt when Leah died has not been matched - I know other family and friends feel the same. And grief doesn’t end it’s always there - especially on key anniversaries. 'It’s an Everest to climb.'
Today this page is launched Lele would have been 32yrs old.
The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust were amazing at supporting bringing Leah back home to Northern Ireland and her family. When you are dealing with so many ‘What if’ & ‘Why’ questions it’s invaluable to have had KBRT deal with repatriation. I have always intended to try and raise money for them to support them as they support others. But it's taken a long time to feel emotionally able.
When I was initially dealing with grief I wore out my boots walking & praying the Belfast hills, seems only fitting that the sponsor event includes a hill. I intend to climb to Kala Patthar just above Everest base camp April 8-23rd 2022.
This fundraiser will go directly to KBRT - if you can please help by donating.
If you need further support
Christ is the beacon of light…..
John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
