Grim's Emergency Food Fund

Hi all, this is Mesmer, Grim's partner.

On January 17th 2024, his dad, Kenny, passed away in the hospital at the age of 78. He had been suffering with COPD for a long while and had developed Pneumonia and COVID over the recent few weeks, however they were a side effect. His official cause of death was small cell rapid spread lung cancer. His heart was only working at 10 -15% and if not for the pacemaker he would have passed weeks ago. It was his choice to deactivate the pacemaker and he passed peacefully on his own terms.

Grim had been his dad's caretaker since his mom passed in 2017 and they cohabited together to ensure bills were paid and groceries were grabbed as often as they were needed. However, without his father to assist with finances and getting the groceries, it's hard for him to continue with usual daily life. He is currently suffering with COVID and cannot risk going to the store in general, and he has very limited support available to assist him with moving around. His sister - who is his only lifeline in this situation to help take him where he needs to go, who is his power of attorney, and controls his finances - is also suffering brain cancer and I don't need to highlight how perilous this is and how rapidly this could deteriorate in the near or far future.

He had a limited run for groceries before his dad's passing, once a month at best, which means things are even harder than before with now even less options for getting around. He does not know how to drive and suffers with medical conditions which prohibit him from walking or cycling far without crippling pain.

Making this was hard for him to agree to, as he never wishes to ask for any help, especially on a public forum but we have found that the circumstances are somewhat more dire than initially expected. After clearing out most of the things, it was clear that the small amount of food he had was actually expired and unsafe for him to eat. He is low on cleaning supplies, low on non-perishables, and is currently living off amazon ordered snack food. It's a lot worse and a lot harder than he thought, especially with the weather being volatile currently.

The plan here is to get some amount to help order him groceries and general supplies so that he can eat and get through these next few difficult months until he's back on his feet and having a better understanding on how to sustain himself independently. In this time, he will have to move from where he lives now, and that's another large change in such a small amount of time.

I'll be his beneficiary within this gofundme but all amount received will go to him and his wellbeing. For situations that I am unable to make a payment (due to silly international rules), then a trusted person will be given the amount to complete a purchase.

He isn't sure how to pay back the kindness that people have already given him, but he will figure something out. He isn't even expecting to raise the amount listed on here, but anything will help so that he can manage through this hard time.

He not only has to mourn the passing of his father, but the sudden uncertain changes that this loss brings. The precariousness situation of his sister, the financial struggles of rent and utilities, the ability to navigate to receive healthcare and groceries, and prepare for a move. And he is doing this mostly on his own. It's too much for anyone to bare.
