TORONTO RESTAURANT WORKERS RELIEF FUND
Donation protected
Our aim is to provide ongoing grocery assistance to workers in Toronto in a manner that maintains dignity, supports local farmers and businesses and connects folks to a nurturing community. *We are now able to provide access to mental healthcare for restaurant workers in need.*
__________________________
On March 16th thousands of hospitality workers in Toronto lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our industry will be drastically changed after this, hopefully, some of that change will be for the better.
In the meantime, those left without work are in a precarious position, most of us still have rent to pay.
There is a lot to plan for, there is a lot to worry about.
This is an attempt to alleviate one of those worries.
What does the fund provide?
Weekly grocery assistance to members who apply using our easy online form
What is the monetary value of the groceries each person will receive?
We will provide folks with $75/week of groceries
*We will provide each member with a $225 digital gift card good for 3 weeks of groceries to start and will continue to provide support after that based on a check-in process.
How will members of the fund be able to access their groceries?
Using Green Circle Food Hub's virtual farmers market, members will receive contactless grocery delivery to their door every week.
We will send them a gift card code via email that they can use to shop the virtual farmers market. Members will be able to pick from a wide selection of meat, vegetables, prepared items etc up to $75 value each week.
Who will qualify for this fund?
Folks who don't qualify for Employment Insurance, who have dependents, who are living with domestic abuse and those who have not been able to work out a rent freeze or deferral with their landlord. Anyone who meets any one of the criteria above or has a demonstrable need will qualify. This fund is specifically for laid-off restaurant/bar workers living in Toronto.
Who manages this fund?
This fund is managed by five current and former restaurant workers.
If you were not financially impacted by the pandemic and can contribute please do! Especially if you enjoyed our city's vibrant dining culture.
