Golden Retriever Rescue of New Mexico is a 501(3)(c) volunteer nonprofit. We have been in business for about 16 years and have successfully placed more than 850 Goldens. We find homes for dogs who have been lost, given up or abandoned.
Our typical per dog cost is about $300. This includes a Vet exam, a heart worm and tick disease screen, a chip, rabies and distemper/parvo shot and a spay/neuter. We provide whatever medical care the dogs need. Then we care for them as if they were our own. We socialize them, train them and help them feel safe and loved. And then best of all, we find a perfect home for them.
A few months ago we got a call from the Shelter saying they had a dog with a broken leg. She was a year old and darling. Would we take her? I went down to get her. She actually was not a Golden Retriever, but was a little dog with the sweetest eyes I have ever seen.
I took her to the vet and we decided to splint her leg. We waited for two weeks and then realized that because of the type of break, splinting would not be enough. She needed to have surgery. I called the orthopedic office to get a sense of what that might mean. They estimated that the surgery would run about $4,000.
As I am sure you realize, we are a very small operation. $4,000 is about half of our annual budget. I went to bed that night with the little dog in a crate next to the bed. I didn't sleep much and tossed and turned about the reality of maybe having to euthanize this dog because we didn't have the money. At about 4 AM I woke up and she was looking at me. You will see her expression in the video. She was so full of love and trust, I thought there is no way I can just kill this dog.
We borrowed the money and are coming back to GoFundME to reach out to our caring community for help.
We are a very tiny group of dedicated volunteers and do a great job at healing and placing dogs. We don’t have a fund raising department. We have you. The money you give us will go directly to paying Sparky's bill and directlysupporting the dogs. Our first GoFundMe experience was wonderful and we hope you will continue to support us.
