Hello!
My name is Alexander Easton and I am a senior at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School in a tiny rural corner of Upstate New York.
Four years ago, when I was volunteering as a conversation partner for students needing to improve their English-speaking skills, I had the good fortune to get to know the most compassionate, joyful person I have ever met. His name is Esperandieu Cenat and he is the founder and director of the St. Francis Xavier Orphanage in Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite, Haiti.
When I first met Cenat he was finishing his studies at Siena College where he had come through the sponsorship of the many generous people within the Siena community. What blew me away was how generous, warm-hearted, patient, compassionate and giving this man was despite the hardships he had dealt with in his life. His joy and his warmth was unlike anyone I had met in my life!
Although there have been many changes in my life since the 8th grade the experience of meeting Cenat was buried inside of me like a tiny dormant seed. When it was time to decide what I wanted to do for my senior project I knew I wanted to do some kind of service. I wanted to connect with others and give something of myself to them. Just like Cenat, I want to give back something of the good fortune and generosity I have experienced from my classmates, my school and the HVS community.
My intention is to raise $5,000 for the purpose of purchasing desks for the St. Francis Xavier Orphanage children, paint for the interior of the building and material for which to build a large chicken coup. The chicken coup will provide support to the orphanage and the tiny community surrounding the orphanage. I plan to spend ten days in Haiti in March 2015 to help build the chicken coup, paint the rooms and purchase the desks. But what I am really looking forward to is getting to know the beautiful children who live under Cenat's care.
I humbly ask you for your support in my endeavor. No donation is too small and every penny will be deep appreciated and judiciously spent. But just as important as your donation I would ask you to keep the young spirits of the St. Francis Xavier Orphanage in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.........
