Rick Weir's Cancer Battle

Donation protected

My name is K.C. Rea-Curtis. I have been a friend of Danielle Weir since our first year of college. About two weeks ago we went to lunch and she had confided in me that her Dad, Rick, was sick and they had diagnosed him with cancer. Friends and family were hopeful that with advanced treatment options, he would be well in no time. Unfortunatly, Rick's family and friends were told that he has stage four cancer and has limited time with them.
I am asking for donations for her because she is dear to my heart. I know Dani and her family have a rough battle ahead and will need some financial assistance.
I asked Dani to write Rick's story for me and give insight to the battle ahead for her family:

"After my father's stroke 10 years ago, he once again had found his independence and began cherishing all the little (and big!) things he could accomplish all on his own. He would go for long drives to take photos to share with us about his adventures, and would sneak away to see all the new movies. He had his own little car, his own little apartment, and he loved his self sufficiency.

Along the way he had some medical issues, but he always came out feeling stronger and braver from them. Always with a smile on his face and positive attitude, he really helped us stay strong for him.

A few months ago he began to sporadically fall - sometimes it was into a co-workers arms, and sometimes not as lucky. After a lot of inconclusive reports from his doctor, he started to lose some sensation along his left side (and he would tell you this was his strong side after his stroke) and also felt sciatic pain - all debilitating and leaving him on bed rest. My mother, Shake', and sister, Ashley, were close by and able to be with him while we waited to learn more from the doctor.

One night he fell, and managed to eventually get to a phone to call Ashley. He was rushed to the emergency room where they finally did proper tests to determine what was causing all of this.

Large tumors were found in both of his kidneys and lungs, as well as several spots along the spine. Two along his upper and lower back were removed successfully with surgery to relieve him of his pain and give him back his mobility. Eventually we learned that the tumors were malignant and aggressive and they diagnosed him with Stage 4 Cancer. Terminal.

The first week in February before being discharged he asked his doctor how long he had. He was told 4-6 weeks.

He's regaining some strength and mobility, but ultimately is on bed rest and needs assistance with a lot of regular tasks. He is currently in a nursing facility to receive the care he needs, and hospice is being setup to help everyone in the process.

I, along with my family encouraged him to fight it, there are so many alternative medicines that are accessible and easy to try. He was somewhat receptive to that idea, but in his own time he decided he didn't want the teas, didn't want the supplements, didn't want the juices, didn't want the fuss. He decided he is accepting that his body is slowly giving out even if his spirit is not. His spirit is so bright and honest, the time I've spent with him since finding out has been precious. Lots of beautiful conversations about life, about death, about love, about our memories.

Of course I know their timeline is just a prediction based on the evidence they can see and his passing could come any time inside or outside of that. I'm hoping to travel as often as I can to visit with him and assist with the other challenges we face when saying goodbye.

Any money raised will go towards costs of last minute travel to be with family during this transition, hospital costs outside of insurance coverage, cremation and memorial services, and other expenses that will come from his departure. Beyond monetary donations, any other forms of offerings, hugs, or kind loving words are so helpful and so very much appreciated. For anyone in the bay area that would like to visit with him, please contact me. Thank you <3"
