GSD Black Deaf Alumni's Segregation experience
You can help us bring the voices of the hidden figures to light! Kristi Merriweather DeAnna Swope, and GSD Alumni June Alsobrook are developing a documentary focusing on the experiences of BlackDeaf alumni of the Georgia School for the Deaf from both pre and post-segregation. The filming will begin during the third week of June leading up to Juneneeth, so in order to be able to do this successfully, we need your help in bringing their story to life and in adding primary sources to the BlackDeaf history archive. It is our hope to screen this documentary at conferences, schools, universities, and maybe on streaming platforms in the future. We aim to raise $10,000 which will go towards travel expenses ($200), interview location fee ($875), refreshment ($635) and reimbursement for alumni participating in this project ($3,000= $100 x 30 for 25 panelists plus 5 elders) , exhibition fee ($17 per person x 30 ($510) ,production fees involving with filming and editing ($1500), interviewers' time ($200), principal photography ($400), product marketing (website) ($1,500), stabilizer ($100) and captioning services ($ $420 and $180 for audio ($3 per minute). Your support will be greatly appreciated!
