Support Project Nepal

Friends and Family,

I have been presented with the opportunity to travel to Nepal for a month to volunteer with an outstanding organization called All Hands Volunteers. I will be leaving Tampa on January 12th and returning on February 18th. They have been on the ground since the April 2015 disaster - a devastating 7.8 magnitute earthquake that flattened entire towns, destroyed homes, businesses, and schools. A second earthquake that struck about a month later further added to the destruction. All Hands has worked with local NGO's as well as other organizations operating in the area to distribute emergency supplies, and is now focusing on the rebuilding effort.

I will be spending my time in Sindupalchowk, outside the capital of Kathmandu, joining my incredible friend Tiffany who works as a volunteer coordinator and has spent months as a volunteer in the area. I will most likely be working in a mobile team, camping close to various worksites and assisting with debris removal, demolition of unsafe structures including homes and remote health posts, and the construction/repair of school facilities. Teams of assessors, led by Nepalese volunteers, are deployed into remote areas/villages to find out if/what is needed, and then volunteers can begin to enter the area and work. Volunteers help to clear the land, salvage whatever possible, and assist in the rebuilding process. The work that All Hands does enables homeowners and entire towns to move forward.

If you know me well, you know that I find purpose and fullfillment in uplifting women, children, & families in any manner possible. This opportunity will allow me to give my time and energy to an organization that is known for bringing positive change and truly making a difference.

Please consider donating to help All Hands continue their effort to rebuild the beautiful country of Nepal. There are families needing help demolishing/rebuilding their homes, and children who need safe spaces to attend school. If you so choose, know that your contribution will not only help to offset my travel costs but will also help me purchase and bring supplies that are desperately needed in remote bases where it is difficult to find necessities. Items on their wishlist include safety glasses, drill bits, hammers, nails, battery chargers, toolbelts, and more. I also hope to bring donations of school supplies as needed, as much as I can carry with me.

I am also looking for the following items that I could borrow/purchase from you, friends, if you have them:
-Travel tent
-Backpacking pack/hiking or travel backpack
-Compact sleeping bag
-Workboots/trail shoes (I am a women's size 7)
-Any sort of workclothes that you don't mind donating, as they will likely be taking a beating
-Mosquito net

Thank you from the bottom of my heart - in a time of much uncertainty it will be a blessing to personally work towards concrete (literally) improvements to a place and people who are still struggling to get back on their feet.

With love and gratitude,

-Maria
