Guardians of the Keweenaw Ridge
The Guardians of the Keweenaw Ridge are fighting to keep wind turbines out of the Keweenaw Ridge. The Ridge runs from the lake shore of Ontonagon County to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The massive turbines will be seen for miles ruining our pristine woodlands. The company that attempting to install them is not local nor is the landowner. Michigan State University has identified 3827 potential wind turbine locations in Houghton and Keweenaw counties. This is not an “essential” project. A lawsuit forced our electric provider to buy power from the wind turbine company. This is a fight for the Western UP. Wind Turbines will be seen for miles. The path of migrating eagles, hawks, and falcons is also along the Ridge. Bats lungs explode as they get close. Property values will be affected for miles. Our tourism based economy will be negatively affected.
