Guatemala Stove Project

In March of 2020 a team from CT Valley Orthodontics along with family and friends will be returning to Guatemala to build cookstoves & install water filtration tanks in multiple villages.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to purchase ONIL cookstoves and water filtration tanks for members of impoverished Guatemalan communities.  With the purchase of the stoves and water filters, we are hoping every home in the chosen communities will be provided with an opportunity for safer cooking methods and clean drinking water.  This small change will drastically alter their lifestyles.  

The current cooking methods include open fires within their homes which lead to severe burns, smoke inhalation and house fires.  These cooking methods are the leading cause of death in children under the age of 5.  These new cookstoves will provide them a safe alternative as well as a more sanitary means, allowing them to create more nutritional meals.  They also only use 1/3 of the typical wood burned in an open fire - an environmental benefit and also a time saver for the people in these communities. This year we are also raising funds for water filtration tanks to help the people of these communities have access to clean water.

All funds raised will go directly to purchasing the ONIL cookstoves and water filtration tanks and the team from CVO will personally be installing these and helping the people learn how to use and care for their new stoves & water filters.
