Guernsey 2023 NatWest International Island Games

Some of you may already know, I have been selected as part of the athletics team representing the Isle of Wight at the bi-annual International Island Games being held in Guernsey in July 2023.

I have been competing for the Isle of Wight Athletics Club since I was 8 in both track events and cross country, initially under the junior coaching team of Nicola Canning and Justine Crumplin. As I progressed in athletics I began training under the watchful eye of the IOW athletics team endurance coach Paul Simpson, my training plan was designed to maximise my potential and I was determined to see positive results for the effort I put in.

In 2021, I started to see results, my major achievements were to win gold in the Hampshire County Championships 1500m and gold in the Hampshire Schools Championships 800m. This was followed by a strong XC season with selection to the Hampshire Schools team racing at the English Schools National XC Championships.

This success continued into 2022 where I won gold at both the Hampshire County Championships and Hampshire Schools Championships over 800m, which lead to selection to the Hampshire teams for various inter-counties championships and a love for middle distance racing.

My biggest achievement of 2022 so far, is to reach the qualifying standards for the 400m and 800m, and to be selected for the Isle of Wight Athletics team for the Island Games in Guernsey!
