Guerrilla Mask Movement
Our Mission
Guerrilla Mask Movement is a grass-roots campaign to put hospital grade masks directly in the hands of Covid-19 front line healthcare workers NOW, bypassing administration, middlemen and red tape.
Hello this is Henry Park and Gene Chuang. Both our wives are devoted and brave physicians helping battle covid19, and like all the other healthcare workers (HCW) in the field, is not prepared with the proper PPE to fight this fight. Italy's statistic is that 10% of their HCW's are contracting covid19 in the field trying to help the patients in need. Please help prevent this statistic in Los Angeles, we need support ASAP! Many of the HCW's transmissions were from mishandling reused PPE or using makeshift gear as supplies are low. The supplies of n95 masks are so low in the U.S. that HCW’s are forced to use the same mask for the whole week when the normal procedure is to replace the mask for every patient. If you see 25 patients in 1 day that’s 25 masks with standard protocol. HCW’s will be seeing 125 patients with 1 mask due to the supply issues. We are currently using a socially responsible mask utilization number of 10 per healthcare worker so they can use and dispose of 1 mask per day for the next 2 weeks. Los Angeles is expected to be hit with exponential increases in CV19 cases in the next several days like a tsunami, so HCW’s need masks NOW! Here's an interview with Coach Ron Nash describing how this guerrilla movement got started: Guerrilla start video
Within 3 days of posting this personal GFM campaign, I've been joined by 21 other tech executives, volunteers and community leaders to make this mission a guerrilla movement that follows a Kaizen approach to daily iterations for operational efficiency to meet the demands of our healthcare workers in this rare and challenging supply and demand arbitrage laden global market for medical grade masks.
We have been able to source FDA certified KN95 and NIOSH certified N95 respiratory masks for costs that fluctuate between $2.07 to $4 per mask depending on supply and demand variances through the week. The changes in pricing is transparently updated in the updates section of our GFM profile.
Guerrilla Mask Movement (GMM) is also collaborating with SoCal Tech for SoCal Hospitals (already partnered with the Count On Me Family Foundation) to expand our reach and streamline operations. SoCal Tech for SoCal Hospitals is a partnership of tech leaders in southern California with a goal to supply 80k+ masks for the local hospital community. Count On Me Family Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on empowering and inspiring children through community partnerships, which has joined the fight against COVID-19 in these extraordinary times.
GMM will be partnering with SoCal Tech for SoCal Hospitals for 1) shipping logistics utilizing their warehouse and sanitary preparation of the packages, 2) collaboration for larger donations to hospital administration, 3) to amplify the Southern California message and call to action to put masks directly into the hands of medical professionals. Count On Me provides tax-deductible invoicing for any donations $500+.
When it comes to distribution, SoCal Tech for SoCal Hospitals and GMM will collaborate on logistics as well as donation strategies, focusing on combining strengths. Guerrilla Mask focuses on frontline, direct healthcare worker deliveries, and SoCal Tech focuses on direct hospital donations, whether large or small. If any GMM donors asks to donate to the hospital directly we will forward to SoCal Tech and any direct healthcare worker requests will be funneled through Guerrilla Mask.
