Help Ahmed Rebuild His Life in Gaza

In the heart of Gaza, amidst the destroyed alleyways and scattered rubble, lives Ahmed, a man in his thirties. Just yesterday, he was a carpenter, skillfully crafting wood into furniture. Today, he is just another number in a long line of survivors searching for a sip of water or a morsel of food to quell their hunger.

Before the war, Ahmed owned a small workshop where he built children’s beds and dream wardrobes with his own hands. He never imagined that his home, his workshop, and everything he owned would turn to ashes in a single moment. On the night he lost everything, he was sitting with his wife, Noura, and their two children, Amjad and Layan, telling them about a new bed he was planning to make for them. But the missile did not wait. The next morning, he found himself buried under the rubble, screaming their names until his voice was swallowed by the devastation.

Days passed as he wandered between hospitals, desperately searching for any news about Noura and the children. Three days later, he found Noura—injured but alive. But Amjad and Layan? No one knew anything. The hospitals were overflowing, the bodies unrecognizable, and the faces covered in dust and blood.

Today, Ahmed and Noura live in a tent among hundreds of displaced families. Every evening, he looks up at the dark sky and asks himself:

“Did Amjad and Layan survive? Are they still trapped under the rubble? Or am I holding on to a delusion?”

Each morning, he carries a small bucket and stands in a long line to get water that is barely drinkable—but it’s the only option. He searches for any work, anything to provide even a little bread for himself and his wife. But here, everyone is in need, and no one has anything to give.

As he walks through the camp, he sees a child crying, searching for his mother among the tents. Samer picks him up and whispers:

“Don’t be afraid… I won’t leave you alone.”

Because he knows exactly what it means to be alone amidst the ruins.
