'Guilt', a short film by Matt Alain Boyd

‘Guilt’ has been a script I have been looking to get produced for a long time. Having been greenlit prior to the pandemic and subsequently cancelled in March 2020, I’m proud to say that myself and my producers will finally be pushing ahead with this project. I am also excited to dive back into shooting sequences on film!
‘Guilt’ is a genre piece (more leaning towards experimental horror) focussing on the emotional harm of infidelity through the use of visual metaphor. My take on the idea will follow the ever developing progression of my personal surrealist style (ToothRot, Pre-loved, Confinement) whilst drawing from my influences (Svankmajer, Lynch, Deren, Bergman, Eggers).
I plan to use bold, powerful imagery and sound to tell the story with limited scripted dialogue. In addition, I wish to work closely with my editor, Pascal, to create a more finessed experimental style than my previous projects.
In addition to directing, I have already begun experimenting with composing the film's soundtrack to create a uniquely dark soundscape with aural scope.
My intention with this film is to submit to genre/horror festivals such as ‘Sitges’ and ‘Fright Fest’ following in the footsteps of films such as ‘The Bones’, executive produced by Ari Aster.
