The Gullah Redemption Mission Sierra Leone team would like to say THANK YOU to everyone that provided support in 2019. Because of your donations we were able to continue with the ongoing cleanup efforts at the Historic King Jimmy marketplace as well as obtain a license to become an official travel agency!
We have several important initiatives slated for 2020 but have chosen to begin with the 2 listed below as they are most critical to the overall safety and well-being of those in our local communities. We’ve also included an itemized list of costs associated with each program.
Freetown “Be Clean” Campaign
The Be Clean campaign is an ongoing initiative that was sparked in 2017 to address the growing number of illnesses directly related to lack of infrastructure and to assist the general public in hygiene, sanitation, water contamination and waste management. An estimated 829,000 wash-related and 49.8 million DALY (Disability-Adjusted Life Years) deaths occurred from diarrhea diseases in 2016. The Be Clean campaign seeks to tackle the issue of inadequate water, hygiene and sanitation risk through the utilization of a number of methods including cleaning exercises, educational workshops, public sensitization and demonstrations in schools, to directly save lives by combating preventable diseases and illnesses.

Did you know that if a fire starts in your home, you may have less than 2 minutes to escape? Our trainees will learn how to conduct escape plans as well as become first responders. We aim to train a total of 180 participants who will help fill the void of a lack of emergency personal throughout Freetown.
