Gummi's TPLO surgery
Donation protected
Update: Thank you everyone who has donated :') I honestly never imagined we could reach this goal, and Gummi and I appreciate it so much. For full transparency, I have also received $460 in direct donations that are not shown here, which means we have met the goal for covering the minimum cost of the surgery. Although further donations would be appreciated to either provide buffer in case it ends up costing the high estimate, or to make up for the costs of the exam fees and medications from the past two days, or for the follow-up appointments we will have, I should also be able to finance and cover those myself, as the bulk of the surgery has been paid for. Thank you again everyone for helping.
I literally don't know what to say except that Gummi is literally the only thing that has ever stopped me from being suicidal. I've had regular episodes of active suicide ideation since I was 22, and they got worse every year until I adopted this older, almost-toothless dog who was so afraid of everything except me and became my one reason for living.
I do everything I can for her. I manage her diet closely to ensure she gets everything she needs, calculating the calories and measuring it down to the cup. I feed her supplements on top of making premium raw foods a part of her meals. She gets regular daily exercise with 2-3 hours of walks a day, and on top of that, I make sure to provide mental enrichment for her by playing with her and teaching her new things through training every day. She gets supervised play time with other dogs, only allowed when she shows me that she can listen to my guidance so that I can stop things at any point before things get out of hand and therefore preempt any potential for injuries. Every vet, trainer, and sitter who has seen or worked with her has remarked on her great health, good manners, sweet temperament, and happy demeanor. She went from being afraid to leave the apartment to the confident dog she is today, and I do attribute that to the daily work I have put in for the past three years.
I do everything I can, except a freak accident still happened, and she now has a cranial cruciate ligament tear. It's the equivalent of an ACL tear in humans. I've already gotten a second opinion, and both vets agree that given her size, weight, and age, her best chances of making a full recovery is through a surgical procedure called Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO). I did ask about alternatives that I could afford, but I have looked into these options and their likelihoods of success are inconclusive. The risk of not pursuing surgery ASAP, on the other hand, is further injury to other joints.
I honestly can't afford this surgery, everybody knows that by now, and as much as I hate doing and asking for this, I hate seeing Gummi in pain even more. So here we are.
The animal hospital provided me an estimated range of $6,385.66 to $6,934.17 for the surgery. Unfortunately, the payment is due upfront. I have looked into financing options as well, but the longest plan they offer is 6 months, which still amounts to over 1,000/month.
