Gunnison High School New Band Uniforms
Donation protected
Thank you for helping Gunnison High School band get new uniforms! With your help, along with the hard work by students, additional local sponsors and the Gunnison Watershed School District we were able to purchase 50 new uniforms for the 2021 school year. We look forward to using these uniforms for the next 15+ years. If you are able to be in Gunnison this fall please come join us for one of our competitions or half-time shows and see these great uniforms in action. Thank you again for making this a successful campaign.
As of Dec 20th , only $3000 left to fund raise! Great job and we are almost there!
The GHS Marching Band last purchased band uniforms in 2000. These uniforms have seen hundreds of football games and marching shows, and have been to the Colorado State Marching Competition at least 12 times. While these uniforms have held up well, they are now older than all of the current students who wear them and are showing their age. A good marching uniform is designed to last only 8-10 years. Despite a dedicated seamstress elongating their lifespan for the past 7 years, many are beyond repair because of worn fabric, torn and broken zippers and snaps and years of mending and cleaning. While “parting is such sweet sorrow,” it is time to replace our uniforms.
The GHS Marching Band has selected a new uniform design that we hope will be as dependable as our last uniform and last us another two decades. Each uniform (coat, pants, hat, and plume) costs $380. Based on the current size of the band and size patterns over the past few years, we are purchasing 50 uniforms. This means that the total cost will be $19,000. As of now, the band students have raised over $13,000 from various fundraisers during the past few years to purchase these new uniforms. We are hoping that friends of the Marching Band will help us raise the last $3000 (as of Dec. 20th). We understand that with current events, many people may be concerned about donating. With that in mind, we would like to remind everyone that no donation is too small. Even $1 will help us towards our goal.
To showcase the impact of Marching Band on students, we have included some quotes from graduates who can speak to the deeper impact of Band.
Nick Sheerin (2017) “Band was instrumental in making me a better person academically and otherwise. The old uniforms may have fallen flat but the new ones will look sharp."
Sam Jakubauskas (2018) “Band is a really great way to create lasting friendships with people from our school and other schools.”
Annelise Pellitier (2019) “Even when I walked into my first marching band practice in eighth grade, I knew that the band was a unique, vibrant group that would broaden my high school experience. The passion and dedication demonstrated by members is contagious, bringing joy to audiences willing to let loose and enjoy the moment.”
Natalie Brauch (2020) “To me, band was a forged family. Even though I may never see some of my bandmates again, I know for certain that I’ll never forget them because we are bound together by the music we played that acted as a shared heartbeat.”
If you have ever enjoyed a performance by the GHS Marching Band, we hope you will take a minute to help us achieve our fundraising goal, and help the next generation of band students have the same opportunities for success.
If you would prefer to send a check, those can be addressed to GHS Band Uniform account, 800 W Ohio Ave, Gunnison, CO 81230.
