It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden and heartbreaking loss of our dear friend, Gustavo de Souza. On January 16, Gustavo, 42, was involved in a tragic car accident in the area of McGillivray Boulevard and the Perimeter Highway. He was pronounced deceased shortly after paramedics arrived.

He was more than a friend to many of us – he was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a kind, joyful presence who brightened the lives of everyone he met. Gustavo leaves behind his wife, Aline Proença, and two young children, Noah, 13, and Helena, 4.

Gustavo, Aline, and Noah moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 2018 from Brazil to follow a dream – a dream of building a future, advancing their careers, and creating a strong and loving family. From the moment they arrived, Aline and Gustavo became a source of inspiration, support, and friendship for so many who shared that same dream. They not only made friends, but became family to many, their kindness and generosity touching countless lives.

In 2020, their family grew with the arrival of their beautiful daughter, Helena, whose striking resemblance to Gustavo is a reminder of the love and light he brought into the world. Gustavo adored his family with all his heart. He worked tirelessly to support them, always prioritizing Aline and their two children. Together, they stood as an unshakable example of resilience, strength, and unity – a family that inspired everyone around them.

Gustavo was more than just a family man; he was a man of integrity, kindness, and humor. His laughter was contagious, and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need was a testament to his character.
