On April 27th, our friend and fellow firefighter Sage Crawford was scalded in a work accident while he was getting equipment ready for this fire season. His face, neck, shoulders, chest, and right arm sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Sage was transported to Mercy and flown to Denver to the Anschutz burn ICU in Denver. He had a four hour surgery where the surgeon harvested most of the skin off Sage's thighs and grafted it onto all the burn areas except his face. We are grateful that Sage has had the finest care so far and we anticipate a long road ahead. We understand that the workers' comp insurance will cover medical costs and a portion of lost income; we may also have unexpected expenses that are not covered. Sage will be wearing a custom compression garment for at least a year and will need to stretch the grafts for at least two years to regain normal range of motion. We are uncertain about his ability to sweat and therefore to return to work in the heat. While Sage is anxious to get back out there with his brothers and sisters in fire, his future is uncertain. We are asking for financial support from you to keep Sage afloat while he heals.
