Guzzler GWN Goes Sober
Donation protected
My name is Gareth and I wanted to challenge myself and go sober for a year. It then occurred to me that if I was going to take on this challenge, which will be extremely tough as those who know me well will testify, I might as well try and do some good at the same time and give something back.
When I was a young adult the Newman family took me in and helped me to deal with some of the personal challenges I was struggling with.
I did not ask them, they knew that I needed help and support to get my life back on track. They let me lodge with them for 5 years and became my second family as I sorted myself out.
Then in 2007 their son Stewart was
involved in a car accident which left him severely brain damaged. Everyone's world was turned upside down.
Hours of travelling to specialist hospital appointments up and down the country. Adapting the family house to get Stew home and caring for Stew 24/7 since. They do everything and ask for nothing in return. They miss out on so much due to the 24/7 care Stew needs.
Now it is my time to give Stew and his parents something back.
By fundraising during my year going sober I want to raise some money that Stew and his family can use to have a break or purchase a piece of equipment to help with his day to day care.
I have set up a Go Fund Me page and am asking for sponsorship during my year long challenge. I am also auctioning myself off to the highest bidder each month to do those jobs you don't want to. So far I have dug holes for fence posts, cleaned stables and much more.
I have set myself a modest fundraising target of £2,000 and am half way to achieving this. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far.
If you have got this far...thank you again for taking the time to read my story. If you would like to find out more please do come and speak to me. Likewise if you want to bid to secure my services one month.
Every donation is greatly appreciated, it
motivates me to continue what I am doing and will be used to provide some relief and enjoyment to Stewart and his family.
