Murph's for Suicide Awareness
Tax deductible
Hello, our names are Andrew Cronin and Liam McAleer, and we hope to do our small part in making the world a better place by raising money for the Suicide Awareness Voices of Education(SAVE). This charity is a small and niche charity that focuses on both education about suicide and relief efforts for those touched by suicide. For more information, check the bottom of this description or visit their website at save.org
The challenge of doing a Murph every day for a month enticed us in 2020 because of its difficulty and the mental toughness necessitated by the daily grind. For those who do not know, The Murph is a workout named after the late Michael P. Murphy, a Navy Seal and Medal of Honor recipient. The workout is simple yet grueling, starting with a one-mile run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and one more mile to finish it off. For those looking for an extra challenge, a 20lb vest will suffice to add to the fun. There are no rules regarding how to divide up the repetitions for the exercises other than you must start and finish with the mile runs. For the last two years we have posted our completion times each day on social media and at the end of the month shared some of our thoughts on the issue of suicide and depression.
Last year we were lucky enough to have some friends join and spread the message and $2000 was generously raised. Thank you to all that helped the spread. This year, as we repeat the challenge for a third time, we encourage everyone to join in whatever way they can. If you have trouble completing a full Murph, that is alright. There are many modified versions that you can attempt. Additionally, if the Murph challenge is too difficult for you to partake in, we encourage you to commit yourself to a daily challenge that you find suitable yet close to your limit. The point of the challenge is not to see who is the fastest or strongest, but to encourage more people to spend time pushing themselves to their limit because there is much insight to be gained at that limit. If you can not complete a Murph, don't sweat it, just push yourself as hard as you can and spend some time thinking deeply about these issues. You never know what you might figure out.
We invite you to join us in the daily Murph challenge, and we thank you for your generous time, effort, and donations.
