Green Valley Christian School Landslide Relief Fund

In this uncertain world, it is comforting to have a safe place that has stood the test of

time. We are Green Valley Church and this year we celebrate our 90th year of Christ-

centered ministry here in the Pajaro Valley. In addition to this legacy, our school ministry,

Green Valley School, and Preschool, have been serving children and families from our

community for over 50 years! We are passionate about the next generation.

 

Pastors, Dennis, and Deanna Smith have served as our Senior Pastor and Music

Pastor, respectively, going on 33 years. They have touched the lives of multitudes in

that period and proven to be faithful ministers of the Gospel. In the fall of 2022, tragically

Pastor Dennis was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has undergone two brain

surgeries, the first in December of 2022, followed by an intense 10-hour surgery in

March of 2023. Radiation treatment and rigorous drug therapy followed. Pastor Dennis

is currently on disability. Please join us in praying for his healing and restoration.   

 

During the same period, due to the devastating storms that occurred in Santa Cruz

County, this past winter, a 300-foot-long landslide occurred on our church property

dangerously close to our school building. As a result, the school building has been

deemed unsafe for occupation and red-tagged by city officials. Local engineers and

experts have determined that if left unattended, not only will the school building be

lost, resulting in the closure of our school, but the entire property, including the

church building, is at serious risk of loss. Church and community leaders have

determined that it's now or never to save Green Valley School and the Green Valley

Church property.

 

We have seen the Lord's miraculous help already as members of the community have

donated their expertise to study, propose, and steward a plan for restoration of our

property. With their help, we have been able to secure an emergency permit, create a

renovation plan, and have already begun the construction. When completed, the repair

will resolve this slide and reinforce our property for generations to come. With the

project completion expected over the next 30 days, we are preparing to welcome back

children and their families to Green Valley School and Preschool again in mid-August

2023.

To accomplish this massive vision, we as a family and community need to collectively

raise 2.5 million dollars ($2,500,000). We are a faith-based community trusting in the

Lord for His provision. With many of you asking for updates and a way to contribute to

this work of restoration, we have created this GoFundMe page.

It is our honor and blessing to serve the Watsonville community as a church for 90

years. We know that God will provide for the restoration of our physical campus, even

as He invites us to a season of restoration of hearts, minds, and relationships; all things
