As some of you may already know, Gwendolyn, now 14, (pictured here) suffered a stroke before she was born and is suffering from all sorts of complications due to brain damage it caused. She has been diagnosed with --
-complex partial epilepsy
-right sided hemiplegic cerebral palsy
-postural orthostatic tachychardic syndrome
-chronic neuropathic pain,
-gasritis and damage to her stomach lining
-and other issues (gynecological, dermatological, anxiety etc.)
We do our best to manage her care including visits to the gastroenterologist, cardiologist, neurologist, and other doctors and specialists. She is currently on 13 prescription medicines just be able to do things we take for granted every day and does her best to cope with everything.
Gwendolyn's anesthesiologist has arranged for her to participate in a 5 week pain management program this spring at Nemours Childrens hospital. This program would help Gwendolyn to gain strength and manage pain and hopefully wean her off some of the medications in a controlled environment in order to lighten the load on her liver. All her specialists would also be involved in the program in a team approach in weekly meetings- and they all agree this is what is best for her in her current condition. Gwendolyn would use biofeedback and learn relaxation techniques to help manage her pain and learn from a nutritionist which foods would be best for her system.
As you can imagine 5 weeks in the hospital doesn't come cheap. Even with her platinum Obamacare plan, her medical expenses will only be half covered. As a family we are doing everything we can to hustle to cover the shortfall. And we need your help.
