Ollie's Surgery
Donation protected
In early March, while our family was cooking barbeque, Ollie got his paws on a BBQ skewer that was left over from the rest of our cooking supplies.
Unfortunately, Ollie proceeded to eat the BBQ skewer whole and we had no way of removing it from his system. However, in the following days, he was functioning normally and had no signs of any trauma or pain, he seemed a little tired at times but that was all. He even pooped out a portion of the skewer still intact throughout the week.
In the following week however, he developed a mild fever and we took him to the veterinarian to figure out why he was feeling sick. We told them about him eating the BBQ skewer and they diagnosed that he could be sick because of a foreign object passing through his digestive tracts and system, so they prescribed him antibiotics to help alleviate his fever.
In the days that followed, it only looked as if his condition was worsening and we even noticed something strange. On the left side of Ollie's body, a small lump began to form. As every day passed, the lump grew alarmingly bigger, so we took him to the vet once again to diagnose what was happening.
The vet discovered a large build up of pus inside of the lump and concluded that it was due to a bacterial infection. The vet then drained a large amount of pus inside of the lump and the lump subsided and his fever reduced. They also ran a cytology test on the lump and concluded that it wasn't cancer or a tumor. The amount of drainage they took out of the lump is pictured below.
After the last vet visit however, the lump came back and even grew larger than before. This is Ollie's lump in its worst state.
On Monday (4/5/2021), we took Ollie to the animal hospital to get a CT scan done to find out what really was happening inside of his body. After the CT scan, the doctors sent us the results and the skewer did not completely pass through his digestive system. This what was left inside of him (pictured below).
About 13-15 cm. of the BBQ skewer did not pass through his digestive system, and it actually is a rare case that a foreign object didn't got through normally. As a result, Ollie has to undergo surgery to remove the skewer from his body and it penetrated his spleen and some of his intestine, so he has to get his spleen removed as well.
This really breaks my and my family's heart, because the total cost for Ollie's operation is too much for our family to handle right now. More than anything, we want Ollie to come back to us healthy and back to his energetic and loving self once again. What also saddens our family is Ollie's twin brother, August, has also been worried sick for his brother Ollie. They've been together since they were born, and seeing his Ollie in this condition has caused August to also have a change in his usual happy behavior. These two have been best friends forever and they're basically inseparable.
Ollie and August mean the world to me, my dad, my mom, and my 3 younger brothers. When we were younger, we were never allowed to have pets and all of us have always wanted to have dogs of our own. And when we finally got these two, our world was changed. Everyday they bring joy and happiness to our family and never fail to brighten up all of our days with their goofiness.
We love these dogs so much and they're not only pets to us, but family as well. They're both approaching their third birthday on April 15th, so we hope to have Ollie home safe and healthy by then to celebrate.
If you were to donate towards Ollie's surgery campaign, all funds will be dedicated towards Ollie's surgery. The doctors plans to undergo surgery to remove the skewer and remove his spleen sometime this week. If you donate to his surgery's medical costs, I can not express how grateful I would be for your help and generosity for helping our family and Ollie get through this difficult situation. Unfortunately, the only thing concerning us is the money, if money wasn't an issue, with no hesitation, we would do this for Ollie. So, thank you so much for your help and support through your donations, I promise to compensate with cute pictures of Ollie everyday. Thank you for taking your time to read, if you can't donate I understand, even if you were just to share this GoFundMe page to your friends and family, that's more than enough help! Thank you so much, and please pray for Ollie's recovery.
