RARE! A word that I feel like describes our Moose to a T. I never thought that word would apply to what we're currently going through as a family.
Masey has been diagnosed with cancer. The preliminary results show it as Pleuropulmanory Blastoma. A cancer that has had less than 500 diagnoses in the world, ever.
On Tuesday 10/13 I took Masey, our 3-year-old, to see our primary doctor as she has been a little off all summer (fevers, tired, etc). A chest xray at the clinic showed a large mass on Masey's right lung. I brought her to the American Family Children's Hospital immediately and we have been here ever since. A CT scan showed a large tumor on Masey's right lung along with numerous bones in her pelvis, ribs and spine. Biopsies were taken of the mass and bone marrow.
Pathology results revealed that it could be two types of cancers: 1. (fairly common) Rhabdomyosarcoma OR 2. Pleuropalmonary Blastoma (PPB). The doctors strongly believe that it is Pleuropulmanory Blastoma but had to send her biopsy to MN for confirmation. We are still awaiting results but waiting is not good for this cancer. We are starting a chemotherapy plan as if it is PPB. We must stop it from spreading NOW!
We are overwhelmed but in the best facility that we could be. The care here is impeccable. We've been told that given the severity of Masey's condition we should plan to be in the hospital for the first 3 weeks of her treatment. We cross our fingers that it does not disrupt her ability to breathe, leading to further medical intervention.
She will need all the strength that can be poured into her. Your support will help cover medical expenses, as well as travel, food and other costs associated with treatment. Any unused funds will go towards a good cause. Thank you for sending strength and help to our family at this time.
