Help Jenna beat the bite!!
Initially she was bitten after getting shoes from the shoebox that was located at her back door. Immediately after the bite medical assistance was given and Jenna ended up in ICU then a general ward battling a necrotic wound. The next steps were being transferred to a specialist in Bendigo who decided the right course of treatment was to do a debridement of her left forearm, wait a week for it to heal enough, and then put a skin graft on the donor site being from her left thigh.
Almost a year later Jenna experienced small mosquito like lumps appearing on her graft which very quickly began to turn into puss and breakdown.
Since then it hasn’t stopped and the wound fluctuates between how far it spreads but never passes a certain point of healing, therefore unfortunately it tremendously affects her every day life, things you and I take for granted.
Jenna has a young son and daughter and it is her one wish to be able to pick them up without experiencing pain every time she wraps her arms around her little family. At the moment the costs of Jenna’s weekly wound dressings are huge as she has to pay for the dressings herself especially now covid has restricted her from travelling to her GP.
Currently the dressings on her arm are changed daily due to the amount of sluff that is produced from the wound. Each dressing change is costing MINIMUM $1300 a week not including medications and additional products if needed.
( dressings contain promogran prisma ,melolin, zetuvit, SSD cream Jelonet impregnated gauze, crepe bandages, wound dressing kits, saline, sanitation products, and so much more we won’t bore you with).
On top of that there’s the cost of driving to her specialist which is 7 hour round trip and then taking into account the cost of fuel, food and medications. Some of this Jenna can claim from the government as rebate for the cost of fuel and the hotels which is a massive help but all this financial pressure is strenuous on the young family.
Jennas medications are also costly as some of them aren’t able to be claimed on the PBS leaving Jenna to find an addition 140 per fortnight for medications minimum.
The specialists needed to be seen are private and as it’s a pre existing medical condition coming off her parents private health she cant access any private health cover.
Usually Jenna drives a 7 hour round trip to see her GP but due to covid these consults have been able to occur over Telehealth conferences which has been a huge help relieving a slight amount of stress not having to find the money for those trips.
The options of treatments given by specialistsare all very costly especially the surgical side of things and at this stage we don’t know what path they are going to take we just know it’s a costly one and we will keep you updated as we find out the information.
The latest update from deep tissue wound biopsies taken in October 2020 are that there is chronic ulceration in the wound, chronic inflammation and changes, and granulation. The chronic inflammation and changes means that there is pre-cancerous tissue there. This means the surgery is needed very quickly to prevent it becoming cancerous
The only good thing to have come out of the last four years is Jenna unexpectedly had a baby boy and girl that are her life and her wish is to be able to be the best mum she can but feels like she fails to do so as even picking them up some days is a struggle from the chronic pain she suffers. She feels dragging them around to appointments is unfair and the stress on her partner is unimaginable and of course Jen blames herself.
Unfortunately the stress is affecting the family dynamic and there is hope that these results may lead to an idea of where to go next
So we ask if you may help this young lady end her painful battle that in more ways then one is making her life difficult! It will give Jen the opportunity to not need to stress where the money for her next doctors trip or dressings will come from, and most importantly give her the opportunity to pick up her son pain free when we finally reach the end road which hopefully will be in sight soon.
Nine years this wound has been affecting Jenna and through the multiple specialists and hospitals she has seen none of them have an answer for her.
I have thought hard about this and felt that it’s time she had some good news that she isn’t in this fight on her own and that her partner also has others trying to help out their family through this time.
In advance I would like to thank you all, we will be setting up a Facebook page so you can follow the story more closely and I will update the link and her story on here also. Until then it’s now my time to go tell Jenna that I have set this up to get an army of people behind her and let her know she isn’t alone and that together we will find a solution to what so many doctors cannot give an answer for thus far.
Jen is a volunteer fire fighter and has donated her time to churches and charities to help them out and I know that she is hoping to get back to being an active fire fighter once her arm allows her to and helping out the local charities when able to.
*As the black widow is the cousin of the red back we are seeking travel costs to America to see specialists hopefully resulting in a cure or information on how to cure. The cost will be phenomenal it will be more then I have put up on the page however I am hopeful that Jen will get the support behind her that she has been! Recently she has been on channel ten about some breakthrough in medical technology. She is trying to use her story to help hundreds of thousands of other people.
Let all rally around and a huge thanks to those who have donated.
