Support for Tom

If you have not yet heard, my dear friend, Tom Hilger, has been diagnosed with accelerated myelofibrosis. He is in need of a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, which will likely begin in about 8 - 12 weeks, depending on how long it takes to find a donor.

I have created this GoFundMe as they're unable to cover all the costs of this extensive treatment. Since covid, the Hilger family has experienced a sort of "one thing after another" that dwindled their savings significantly. Tom was then diagnosed in January and has been unable to work due to severe pain and under doctor's orders (his spleen is so enlarged he has to be insanely careful).

As you can imagine, the inability to work and increase in medical costs has taken a toll, and they are very much in need of support to take this next long journey.

The stem cell transplant will require Tom be admitted in the hospital for 4-5 weeks, and then he'll have to stay within 30 minutes of the clinic for another 3-4 months, with a 24 hour caregiver by his side. We have arranged for taking shifts so that Kelly can take some time to be home with Lilly and for some rest, but neither of them will be able to run their businesses during this time.

The amount we're aiming for is just an initial and very conservative estimate of what they'll need to get through this... these timeframes are if there are zero complications and he's recovered and back to work in 6 months (highly unlikely).
