Please allow me to introduce myself...I'm David Siscoe, a hardworking Exercise Specialist and a highly decorated Canadian athlete who proudly held my country's flag atop the podiums around the world!

If you read the article which has been the lead news story for over 2 weeks across Canada, I hope you will see as clear as day how the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) has bullied me around and in doing so has helped my former landlord to commit tax evasion. Instead of going after my former landlord for outstanding taxes owed by simply putting a lien on her property, they instead made me pay HER OUTSTANDING TAXES!!

Again, the CRA could have AT ANY TIME placed a lien on her property but, INSTEAD the CRA turned its sights...NOT on the delinquent landlord, but on me! The tenant.

In the end, I am being charged approximately $83,000! This is encompassing of the landlords unpaid taxes, her accumulated interest, her punitive penalties, and legal fees.

At the request of several people wanting to help, I have created this go fund me page. However, what would REALLY be most helpful to stop injustices like this from occurring again and again would be to simply sent the Globe and Mail article to you local MP and insist that they FIX THIS!

The injustice of my situation is not just a solitary plight; it is a glaring symptom of a broken system that demands our attention and action. The CRA's failure to hold delinquent landlords accountable, when all they have to do is to put a lien on their properties when called for.

This is a grave miscarriage of justice that cannot be ignored. It is a stark reminder of the urgent need for legislative reform and/or a much needed, simple section added to every lease, where landlords fill in a section attesting to being a tax resident of Canada or not.

While the law is from 1932, this is this first time the CRA has targeted and charged a tenant for a tax evading landlord.

IF we do nothing as a community, the CRA will have found a new revenue stream in going after millions of tenants across the country...IF we let them get away with this.

We CANNOT, as a people stand by while countless individuals will become a target by the CRA and suffer the consequences of systemic inadequacies. It is time for change, time to demand accountability, and time to ensure that no Canadian is unfairly burdened by the failings of others.

I implore each and every one of you to join me in this fight for justice. I am told that we need to reach out to our local Members of Parliament, raise your voices, and demand action to amend the law that allow such injustices to persist.

Together, let us send a resounding message that the rights and dignity of every Canadian must be protected, and that accountability and fairness are not mere ideals but fundamental principles of our society.

They may have initially targeted me. But rest assured, IF no one reacts, this is likely just a test to then target many more Canadian tenants.
