Umass Boston Nursing Class of 2015
Donation protected
Please consider donating so that we, the nursing students of the class of 2015, can raise the funds to have a pinning ceremony. A pinning ceremony is a symbolic ceremony which welcomes the graduating nursing students into the profession by the faculty. It is a traditional rite of passage that marks the completion of the nursing program. Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George. She in turn presented pins to the nursing graduates. By the early 1900s, it became standard practice for nursing schools affiliated with hospitals. As the programs became housed in universities and colleges, the tradition has sometimes been replaced with graduation and convocation. The pinning ceremony connects the new graduating nurses to those that came before. It celebrates the completion of a rigorous nursing program. Any amount is appreciated!
