Gya's Support Fundraiser After Dog Attack
Donation protected
On Tuesday, March 18th, Gya was walking her dog, accompanied by her niece, when a terrifying incident occurred. Two dogs from the neighborhood escaped from their home while Gya was walking her dog. The neighborhood dogs saw them and charged unprompted. Gya spotted the dogs and was trying to get her family home quickly. In the attack, Gya protected her dog and niece, so they luckily were physically unharmed. Unfortunately this left her with severe injuries.
Gya was viciously bitten on her left upper arm by one of the dogs, which refused to release its hold. Hearing the commotion, neighbors rushed to intervene, and this swift action ultimately saved her life. This was an incredibly traumatic experience for Gya, especially since she is a lifelong animal advocate and lover of all pets. The second dog left multiple bite wounds on Gya’s back and right leg before fleeing the scene.
The neighbors stayed with Gya and her niece, doing their best to keep Gya conscious and talking until the ambulance arrived. After she was rushed to the hospital, doctors had to take a vein from her left leg to repair the severed artery in her left arm. They performed emergency procedures to address her immediate, life-threatening injuries. Gya spent six nights in the hospital. During her stay, doctors also discovered that she has diabetes, which has become another challenge she is now facing in her recovery. Due to the damage, Gya will need continued medical treatment and surgery to further repair her arm.
Gya is currently on medical leave from work as she adjusts to this new, painful reality after such a brutal attack.
The funds raised here will go toward her necessary accommodations for her recovery at home—groceries, medications, and other essential items.
