For background information on Ms. Ivy:
In late November, Books bears had the privilege of interviewing Ivy Lesser, a New York Public School Speech Therapist, former special education teacher, and the most welcoming educator we’ve ever met. Her job in the classroom necessitates a lot of creativity, in working with verbal, and non-verbal students and even more creativity when her classroom is entirely virtual because of the pandemic. Any educator can tell you that this year’s transition to virtual learning has been a nightmare, but besides that, Ivy is currently focusing on some other parts of being a teacher: The best ways to financially support her student’s families for the holidays, how to make her Sesame Street classroom theme seem realistic over Zoom and developing lessons that engage every one of her students, taking into account their needs as individual learners and low SES New-Yorkers.
