The Christie Cancer Hospital Manchester

Hello.

My name is Gareth Murphy and I have been in The Christie Cancer Hospital Manchester for some 6 to 7 weeks, having a Full Stem Cell Transplant. I was diagnosed in 2022 with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a rare form of blood cancer, where my bone marrow wasnt producing good blood cells.

I quickly became transfusion dependant needing a blood transfusion weekly. The only cure is a Stem Cell Transplant. I was very grateful when my 3 sisters offered to be tested to see if they were a potential match. After lots of testing my eldest sister was chosen by the transplant team to be my donor.

We both encounter lots of pre transplant testing and I was given the go ahead that I could have the transplant.

My wife & I arrived at The Christie hospital and settled into my room. The nursing staff were excellent, explained at every stage what was happening.

My Intense conditioning Chemotherapy started pre transplant. On day 4 of this regime I took very poorly with complications from the Chemotherapy.

My wife was told by Doctors at this point that I was extremely poorly. I have managed to turn the corner to the astonishment of all Doctors, Specialist Nurses, Nurses on ward and Health Care Team who didn't think that I would pull through it.

I am now 3 days after Ringing the Bell and I'm at home in my own bed.

After a bit of R&R I would like to start giving back to The Christie Cancer Hospital and raise over £3500 by the 19th Feb 2027.

As you all know CHRISTIES Cancer Hospital Manchester have given me my life back.

So to pay them back, I would love ❤️ to organise some Fundraising from maybe a few weeks after rest & recuperation to ending with a Main Event to finish off on 19th FEB 2027 at a location TBA with a Family Day and a evening of entertainment with a Band.(Ticket Sales).
