On behalf of Endo - Warriors in Africa, Vaka Health Foundation is supporting women in Africa fighting this silent disease on their own. Endometriosis is a disease that affects the tissue lining the uterus and it is characterised by symptoms such as pelvic pain, painful menstrual periods, heavy menstrual bleeding, pain during intercourse, and infertility. The exact cause of endometriosis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, hormonal, and immune system factors.

Unfortunately, people affected are often misunderstood, undiagnosed and stigmatised for infertility. Please read the story below from Grace Nagawa leading the awareness from Uganda in Africa.

Hello, my name is Grace Nagawa, and I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Endometriosis Foundation Uganda and the lead at Endometriosis Africa. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

I have been living with Endometriosis, a chronic and painful disease that significantly affects the quality of life for women, including those around them. It has been a challenging journey for me, as I have battled this condition for the past 20 years, starting from the age of 14. Unfortunately, like many others, I faced years of misdiagnosis and ineffective management of my symptoms.

At 27, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometriosis. It was a devastating moment, and the only option left was to remove my uterus. However, with the help of a specialist outside my country, my uterus was saved. This experience motivated me to establish a support network for women with this condition.

The purpose of our foundation is to create greater awareness about this condition, with a focus on promoting early detection. We also aim to provide financial assistance to women who require surgery and treatment for Endometriosis. By improving the quality of life for women living with Endometriosis, we can significantly impact their overall well-being.

Your generous donations will directly support these women, enabling them to access the necessary medical surgeries and treatments. Additionally, they will use the funds to expand our awareness campaigns throughout Africa, ensuring that more women receive timely diagnosis and appropriate care.
