Dominic's Journey
Donation protected
On January 16, 2024, Dominic was tragically shot while sitting in his car after leaving a nightclub club and the impact resulted in a spinal cord injury that changed the course of his life forever. As a result, he is now facing the immense challenges of quadriplegia (no feeling from the neck down) and his everyday life will be profoundly different.
Currently, Dominic is facing respiratory challenges due to pneumonia and a collapsed lung. He is relying on a ventilator to assist with his breathing. Once Dominic's respiratory condition improves, the transition will be made from the current breathing tube in his mouth to utilizing tracheostomy tubing in the neck. This adjustment will provide greater flexibility during his rehabilitation.
Despite this heart-wrenching situation, we remain grateful for Dominic's survival, understanding that as long as he is alive, there is hope and God has a purpose in this situation.
As his mother, I have been by his bedside in Milwaukee since day one and am committed to being his primary caregiver throughout this journey. This means making the difficult decision to step away from my home and career in Las Vegas to relocate to Milwaukee, where Dominic can access specialized care crucial for his rehabilitation.
This unexpected turn of events has taken an emotional toll on our family and presented significant financial challenges. I currently work for Boys Town Organization, a position that unfortunately cannot be done remotely. As a result, I am faced with leaving my job and navigating the financial implications that come with being a full-time caregiver.
Though I have life insurance for Dominic, it lacks living benefits that could cover the immediate and ongoing costs related to relocation, housing modifications for accessibility, and the daily challenges of caring for a quadriplegic individual. Our immediate needs include accessible housing, furniture, transportation, and ongoing medical expenses. Additionally, we must continue to support Dominic's two young children during this challenging time.
The funds raised will be directed towards:
Adapting housing to accommodate Dominic's mobility needs in Milwaukee.
Covering relocation costs, including accessible transportation.
Assisting with ongoing medical expenses and unforeseen financial challenges.
I am profoundly grateful for your consideration and support during this difficult time. Your kindness will not only ease our family's burden but also contribute to creating a better life for Dominic and his children as they navigate the challenges of this new chapter.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in Dominic's life and our family's ability to navigate this challenging journey. We are grateful for every prayer, donation, and share of this campaign.
As a final plea, cherish your loved ones wholeheartedly, for none of us knows what tomorrow holds. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for standing with us on this journey.
With gratitude,
The Family of Dominic Kyles
