The Dion Conlon Story

As many of you may or may not know, Dion Conlon is a son of Brian and Alison Conlon and brother of Jordan and Chelsea, from Killeevan, Co. Monaghan. He’s a bubbly, loving, caring sociable 25-year-old lad, that enjoys meeting with friends, playing football and running for exercise. Dion has many friends near and far and is dearly loved by them all.

Dion’s journey began 5 weeks ago with an unexpected admission to hospital in Liverpool. After some tests, the news came that all family dreads last Friday, 12th August 2022, when we received the heart-breaking diagnosis of “Adenocarcinoma” of the lung; which in plain English is a rare type of lung cancer, rarely seen in a young person.

Dion himself and our family are devastated and heartbroken to be faced with this terrible news. Dion is currently in the care of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and is receiving such love and care.

The next step in Dion’s journey is for him to be moved to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Liverpool, to receive chemotherapy/immunotherapy for this terrible illness. The road is and will be terrifying and a long one, but our only aim right now is to be with Dion every step of his journey to love, care and support him-this is the minimum he deserves and needs.

This will be very difficult for us all as a family financially and emotionally as our family circle will be separated for this period, however long it may take. We will need to travel back and forth to Liverpool to be at our loving son’s bedside every step of the way, and unfortunately, this brings added costs such as flights and accommodation to stay in Liverpool.

So, we are asking for as much help and support from all our family, friends, neighbours, and our community at whole to please help us make Dion’s journey as stress-free and comfortable as possible.

Lastly, we ask that all his friends continue to text and ring in the coming days and weeks to help keep his spirits up.
