Rachel's cancer journey

Hello everyone.. as many of you may know our beautiful Rachel Bakker has had her world turned upside down this year with a diagnosis of cancer.

On January 10th this year Rachel was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal BCell Lymphoma. This is a type of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. She has had to leave her island home temporarily and move to Melbourne to be with family to undergo testing, treatment and specialist care. The treatment plan includes 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy.

Rachel currently works as the midwifery educator at Thursday Island hospital. A relatively new role and one she excels in.. Rachel is dedicated to the women and midwives of the Torres Strait. Not only an educator, Rachel has touched the lives of many through her work as a nurse and midwife in many different hospitals in Australia and also through her volunteering in Papua New Guinea and with YWAM organistation. Rachel is a fun loving kind hearted and beautiful person, who is loyal and genuine and is always there for her friends and family, especially in times of need. Her strong faith in Christ is especially inspiring in this trying time.

Rachel has not asked for charity for this time, but knowing that through this journey there will be many unexpected costs and she has had to take leave from work she would be immensly grateful for any donation to assist her. I have put a small goal of $7500 to raise knowing that all of Rachels friends and family would want to help out in any small way they can, and any donation would be grately appreciated. Rachel is sorely missed from her island home, and we cannot wait to see her again soon when she is fighting fit and as always with Joy in her heart ❤️
