Robert's Kidney Transplant

A few years ago, Robert went to the doctor and discovered that he had kidney disease. Unfortunately, one kidney had already been lost and the other was working with minimal functionality. Since then, Robert has been doing his best to maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet, and doing routine check-ups with his doctor to try and maintain the kidney function he had.

This last year, labs have been showing a decline with his kidney function. Robert and his wife, Savanna, have been working closely with Cedar Sanai Medical Center in Los Angeles to find someone that is a match for a kidney transplant. Cedar Sanai has one of the best kidney transplant programs in the nation and have proven to be quick and thorough with the donor testing process and communication. After a few inquiries with some wonderful family members that we are so grateful for, January of 2023, it was determined that the person who was a match and cleared to be his donor is his wife, Savanna.

Robert’s last appointment on February 7th, showed that his numbers had dropped significantly and were now to the point that he needed a transplant. The transplant surgery is scheduled for this April. Robert will need to go to pre-op appointments weeks before the surgery, will need to stay in the hospital for one month following the surgery, and then he will need to stay near Cedar Sanai for the next 2 months for continued post-op appointments. Both Robert and Savanna are taking medical leaves from their work so they can both stay in California for the procedure, to recover, and to support each other. With limited income from their leave of absences, they not only need to continue to pay for their current bills and home, but now a second place to live for an extended time, and the medical bills that will come along with both of their procedures. Robert and Savanna not only support each other, but they love and support their daughter, Sophia, who will also be moving to California with them.
