We Need Help To Pay Attorney Fees to Save Our Home
Donation protected
UPDATE: We feel like we are in a "holding" pattern. Our attorney has spoken to the Successor Trustee twice and is hopeful that the eviction is on hold. He is somewhat hopeful that we can work out an agreement for us to stay in the home. We continue to live in the house and pay the expenses.
Our attorney estimates that our fees could run as high as $10,000.00 before this is all settled, and the retainer fee is $2,500.00. We have paid the retainer, thanks to everyone who has helped out, and Charles has been blessed with some good jobs over the past few weeks. We are hoping to raise more funds to cover future attorney fees if needed.
We are Charles and Susan Murray, living in Raleigh, NC. For those of you who know us, you will find it hard to believe, but this is our situation.
We have lived in our home for 19 years in a trust under my mother-in-law's name. We have paid the mortgage, HOA, and repairs and put in about $60,000.00 in renovations. Over the past two years, we have been in guardianship and trust cases brought on by the nursing home she is currently in. In October, we lost control of her trust, and the Successor Trustee sent us a letter to "Vacate The Property" by January 31, 2024, that they are selling the home. We have written to the Successor Trustee asking them to consider allowing us to stay and pay the bills, but they have not responded.
Since the house was in the name of the trust, we have no viable rental history or equity. We are a multiple-cat and dog household, so renting a place has been impossible.
Our only chance is to challenge the Notice to Vacate and any future eviction lawsuit. We have no other family, and Charles has been on disability since 1999. Even though we both work, we don't have extra funds to pay attorney fees and retainers.
We appreciate your consideration. Please help us share this message.
