Help AJ

My name is Day Broniek. My husband and I are trying to raise funds for my son, AJ, to get better treatment for his mental health. We adopted AJ at birth. He has struggled since he was very young, with what we were told was Autism. AJ is now 14 years old, and in the past 2 months, the care he has been given is not enough to keep him happy, healthy, safe at home. For the past 8 months we have been forced to use State funds due to our insurance policy which did not cover mental health treatment. We have been at the mercy of the State choices for care. My son has been shifted from partial outpatient, ER, and inpatient x 4, so far, because there are no state beds available for residential. We have tried to get through this with AJ at home as we make appointments with therapists, doctors, yeswaiver facilitators and school but my son is now a risk to himself because he feels there are no answers. Inpatient is only for 1 week to place a bandaid, on the layers of mental anguish he has had to endure, as we navigate through this. We have not been able to get him on the right meds because he only stays 1 week, and this is not long enough to observer his behaviors after the fact or get the therapy he needs to address all the trauma of each stay. Residential placement is where AJ will stay for months to peel the layers down and get him on the right medications. We have found a consultant who is now helping us navigate the process of getting him placed exactly where he needs to be to get the best treatment for his situation.
