Ditte's endometriosis surgery
Donation protected
My girlfriend Ditte has endometriosis, which is a debilitating disease that affects 176 million women in the world. She is in pain everyday because of the disease. Endometriosis is a disease where tissue similar to endometrial lining is found in the peritoneum, on organs such as the bladder, the bowel and the ovaries. In some patients it is even found on the diaphragm or in the lungs. The tissue creates inflammation, scar tissue and pain so severe that it is difficult for her to maintain a "normal" life. In order for her to get better, she needs to undergo specialized excision surgery. Excision surgery is the gold standard for endometriosis and has been proven to be superior to other methods in terms of pain relief. There are few specialists world wide which means she will have to travel to see an excision specialist. We have found a specialist in the UK who can remove her endometriosis for good. The surgeon believes she has endometriosis on her diaphragm and in the pelvis (the pelvic endometriosis has already been diagnosed in 2017 in Denmark). She has had two ineffective surgeries here in Denmark. The surgeons in Denmark use a combination of excision and ablation (diathermy). The problem with ablation is that the endometriosis lesions are not removed by the root - a useful analogy for this is that you only remove the tip of the iceberg, not the part that is below the water surface. The endometriosis that is left in the body will continue to deepen, cause inflammation and scar tissue as well as severe pain.
Diaphragmatic endometriosis causes symptoms such as difficulty breathing, shoulder pain that radiates down the arm, chest pain, shoulder blade pain and stabbing pain throughout the diaphragm. The pain is so severe that my girlfriend has ended up in the neurology ward several times with what the doctors thought was a stroke. The pelvic endometriosis causes pain in her pelvis, leg pain, back pain and bladder pain so severe that she gets dizzy and almost passes out from the pain. Donations will be tremendously helpful as she has minimal income due to the disease hindering her from working. She is currently in medical school pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor, however, it is almost impossible to get up everyday and go to university because of pain. Her dream is to one day be healthy enough to finish medical school and pursue a career in minimally invasive laparoscopic endometriosis surgery so she can help other people with this disease regain their lives back.
Yours sincerely, Kasper Haslov
Video explaining, why excision is superior to ablation (heat energy used to burn the top of the endometriosis lesions, not removing the lesions entirely):

The total cost of the surgery is 9733.50 GBP, which currently translates to
83 297.84 DKK.
This includes:
Pre-assesment Excision of pelvic and diaphragmatic endometriosis with Mr. Christopher Howard Mann (Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Laparoscopic surgeon) and Mr. Sutcliffe (consultant in Hepatobiliary Surgery) 2 nights in the hospital Anaesthesia
Postoperative consultation
Besides the aforementioned cost, I need to pay for flight tickets and a hotel stay during the days (approximately 7 days) after, when I am discharged from the hospital but am not yet allowed to fly back home, because of recent surgery.
