Jodi B's Glasses

Jodi (Sager) Bettineski has been a teacher in the Pendleton schools for 11 years, working as a PE and Health teacher at Sunridge Middle School, then a PE and Health teacher and Pendleton High School, where she also began teaching in the ECMC program (ECMC is a mentoring program to target troubled youth and keep them on-track through high school and into college, providing scholarships and additional support). Jodi and her husband Chris are both passionate educators and mentors. At age 22, though asymptomatic, Jodi was diagnosed with a congenital condition similar to Macular Degeneration. She remained asymptmatic for 5-6 years. Other family members who suffer from the same ailment have shown moderate and slow progression of the disease. Beginning in May of 2014, Jodi's rapidly began to progress, and continued to worsen through the year. At this point her vision is so limited that she is unable to continue teaching, which has been absolutely devastating to her and her family. Additionally frustrating, Jodi can no longer see well enough to watch her children in activities or read clearly.
Prior to her development to the point of inability to teach, the Pendleton School District had purchased for Jodi some highly specialized magnifying glasses. Though they did not arrive in time for her to use them in the classroom, Jodi believes they may be able to help her to see her daughter compete in gymnastics, and to manage more day-to-day tasks around the home.
Our project is to raise the $1,750 to help Jodi and Chris purchase these glasses. So many families impacted by Jodi and Chris would like to help, as would fellow teachers and coaches. Please share this fundraiser with any you know who would like to help.
