Cancer Sucks!
Donation protected
Ed Schlager (aka Bud, Buddy, Schlage and Eddie) who is a lifetime friend of many needs our help.
Buddy was diagnosed with inoperable stage IV malignant Pleural Effusion (cancer cells in the pleural fluid around his right lung) in July 2018.
I have known Buddy for over 50 years. He is a selfless caregiver to his many friends throughout the years, but now he finds himself the patient instead of the caregiver.
He is known as "Coach Bud" around Harrison Township and Chesterfield, MI from his years of coaching with the L'Anse Creuse Little League. He has always been politically active in the communities he has lived and is the current Precinct # 002 Delegate in Lenox Township.
Over the years of donating to many causes including GoFundMe campaigns, he now needs our help.
He is currently going through a second round of chemotherapy. Initially he responded well with a combination of chemo drugs (Carboplatin and Alimta) and the immunetherapy drug Keytruda which was added to his treatments in October 2018. In December he was only getting the Keytruda. In January a CT scan showed that the Keytruda was not working, as his tumor grew in size. As of today he is now on a different chemotherapy drug called Abraxane. A new scan in 2 weeks will show if the Abraxane is working.
Buddy has not been able to work since he began his treatments. This has caused a financial hardship for him and his wife Mary, who is no longer working due to a disability.
Buddy needs to focus on his treatments and recovery instead of constantly worrying about getting the everyday expenses paid. Getting to his appointments is crucial.
On top of everything a recent major car repair expense has created additional financial burdens.
