Hunter Peterson is 18 years old and a senior at Century High School in Bismarck, North Dakota. He is a member of the Century High School Choir, he participated in the Govenor's Choir and Central Dakota's Childrens Choir. Before health issues limited him he was part of the cross-country team and played basketball in junior high. He has worked for Dan's Supermarket and is currently working at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. Despite constant severe headaches, pressure on his head and vision and hearing problems, Hunter has maintained great grades and an upbeat, positive attitude.
Despite his physical difficulties, Hunter remains an encouraging and supportive son, brother, uncle and friend. Hunter is a very proud uncle and adores his nephew and cherishes spending time playing, loving and helping 8 month old Gage explore the world around him.
Hunter has a strong faith and belief in the Lord. He attends Evangle Church in Bismarck with his girlfriend, Nicole and prayer as a family gives him strength and hope.
Hunter's sophmore year began with a series of confusing illnesses. He was treated repeatedly with antibiotics thinking he had some infection, possibly strep throat. Finally after many months of feeling sick and runned down Hunter was diagosed with mononucleosis. He never seemed to recover from that illness. By the end of his junior year, Hunter began to have difficulty with his hearing in his left ear, severe pain in his neck, pressure, weight loss, and severe headaches.
It was discovered that there were suspicious growths behind his left ear. Doctors were concerned for the hearing in Hunter's left ear as he was born deaf in his right ear, so they quickly went in to remove the growths. During surgery they discovered that there was a tumor on Hunter's lymph node and into the muscle in his neck. Those tumors and lynph nodes were benign. Symptoms returned within months and in November a MRI revealed many skull based tumors were the cause of the pain and pressure and increase in hearing loss, headaches, neck and chewing pain.
On November 19th, Hunter was referred to Mayo Clinic since the doctors in Bismarck are unable to diagnose and treat such tumors. Hunter is scheduled to be at Mayo Clinic the day after Thanksgiving.
A trip to Mayo is proving to be financially difficult for the family. Hunter's mom, Lisa, is a single mom of three beautiful boys whom she has raised with no financial support from the boys' father. She has worked very hard to provide for the boys but with limited income there isn't a lot left over for emergencies. Without a reliable car to make the trip during the winter and a minimum 10 day stay in hotels in Rochester, the trip alone is essentially impossible without financial assistance. Because Hunter is 18, the family doesn't qualify for assistance from Ronald McDonald House and Shriners. Lisa is looking at every avenue for help but is coming up short. This is just for the trip to Mayo and of course there will be the extensive medical bills for treatment.
Money raised from this sight will go to provide transporation to Rochester, MN, lodging, meals and other expenses which may occur during their stay. Any amount raised above those needs will go to pay Hunter's medical bills at Mayo. Because of how quickly this is all happening, Hunter and Lisa, are in need of these funds as quickly as possible.
Hunter and Lisa cannot begin to express their gratitude to those who will contribute to their cause. They often live on the margins and help many times seems very far away. Your generosity is meaningful beyond the financial, your generosity is a blessing and you will be prayed for. Hunter is Lisa's light and joy and those who know Hunter know that as well.
