Support for Black LGBTIQ Africans seeking asylum
African Rainbow Family, House of Gurumayle, Living Free UK, House of Rainbow and African Equality Foundation are running a joint GoFundMe initiative to support Black LGBTIQ+ Africans and people seeking asylum in the U.K. Funds raised will be withdrawn and evenly distributed by African Rainbow Family, a registered charity in the U.K.
Why are we doing this
Structural inequality, systemic racism and the phobia against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer plus (LGBTIQ+) individuals are deeply embedded within our society and public infrastructure. This can be seen in the exclusion faced by Black African LGBTIQ+ individuals and people seeking asylum because of their sexual orientation and gender identity which have caused a toll in their mental health and quality of living.
This has been worsened by the historical hostile environment and exacerbated by the COVID19 pandemic. Your donation will provide a culturally appropriate and holistic counselling and therapy at the cost of £80 per session.
Currently, people seeking asylum are not allowed to work. They live on less than £40 a week and some have no recourse to public funds. Your donation will help towards our hardship fund of £30 for food per week per person and £25 for phone data and £10 for bodily essentials per person per month.
We aim to contribute to the stable support and wellbeing of Black LGBTIQ+ Africans and people seeking asylum in the U.K by addressing their needs within COVID19 and beyond, especially with a possible second wave happening soon.
Your donation will support transformational and radical alternatives that will create tangible solutions for change in ways that are unimaginable and unexpected.
Where will your donation go?
Your donation will be spread evenly across five grassroots organisations already doing incredible work for Black LGBTIQ+ Africans and People seeking asylum in the U.K.
