Blythe Dream to own a Habitat Home

We are so excited! Our family has been working with Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County, IN. since January 2018. We have just gotten our Lot Offer, and our Floor Plan is finished! They will be breaking ground on our home in October. Our home should be finished by March.

One of the requirements to purchase our home through Habitat is that we save $1000 of our own money toward the closing costs. We have been taking budgeting classes and are well on the way to meeting the Habitat requirement but we are also working with the national agency, Housing and Neighborhood Development (HUD). They ensure continued support after we purchase our house, they require that we save 3% of the total mortgage cost before closing.

Because Shawn and I are both disabled, and living on Social Security, we have no "earned income". So, apparently, we don't qualify for programs that are specifically designed to help with the 3% costs! These costs have been estimated to be around $4800 total, $1000 of which we must raise from our own funds. We have contacted our Senators and Representatives, City Officials, and other Local Organizations, and it seems we just fall through the cracks.  More than a few friends have suggested that I start a GoFundMe to help raise a portion of this money as I continue to look for grants that we may qualify for and to knit and crochet to raise the money.
