Unique Amazon Habitat in Danger

Mission Statement
Located several kilometers upriver from Iquitos, Peru, close to the start of the Amazon River, exists a richly diverse area that has remained largely unspoiled. The land is home to many incredible mammals native only to the Amazonian forest including several species of monkeys, sloths, and anteaters, capybara, wild cats, red deer, and tapir. Its abundance of wetlands and Amazon River coast support turtles, alligators, snakes, fish, and dolphins. Clusters of Aguaje trees produce a fruit that sustains many of these mammals plus a dizzying number of bird species. Sadly, this paradise lies precariously close to a rapidly expanding agroindustrial monoculture operation.
Most significantly, the land includes an elevated plateau that remains untouched by flooding that affects many surrounding areas. This plateau and a large stand of virgin rain forest have belonged to Don Pablo and his family for generations. Now in his 70s, Don Pablo recently suffered the loss of both his wife and son. To move closer to his remaining family and fund his retirement, he must now sell his family’s property. Don Pablo wants to transfer the land to a person he knows and trusts to preserve its integrity and prevent it from being clear-cut and excavated to become another industrial port.
(Original foundation of Don Pablo’s ancestral home)
Jorges Hachumak has been working to support and protect this stretch of the Amazon and its inhabitants for more than 5 years. He’s a respected member of the local community and has made a home in the area. Over the years, Jorges has poured much of his time and personal resources into protecting existing old growth trees and vines (many of which are of great medicinal value and just beginning to be known to the outside world); replanting new specimens of native plants; rehabilitating injured and orphaned animals; and helping the community resist agro-industrial encroachment.
As a result of these efforts, Don Pablo wishes to entrust Jorges with the care of his family property:
With your assistance, this beautiful land can become the basis of an Amazonian conservation and educational center. Visitors and local families can continue to benefit from the richness of the Amazonian jungle, participate in traditional healing arts, and implement sustainable agriculture.
We welcome any and all contributions to this tremendously important effort. Time is quickly running out for the land to be purchased by Jorges!

Additionally, if you are interested in making the voyage of a lifetime to experience the richness of this Amazonian land and its people firsthand, please don't hesitate to send us a message!
