Hadeel's Summer Medical Program

Donation protected
My name is Hadeel. I was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. My family and I faced hard times during our transition between Iraq, Syria and America. My family is what motivates me to achieve my goals and make my and their dream come true. I am currently a junior at Northeastern Illinois University majoring in Biology, and as a young woman I am looking forward to entering medical school after graduation to be a role model for future aspiring doctors and to be an advocate for female patients. As a young Arab American woman, I have a dream and I am confident that one day it will become true.

I worked hard with others’ help to apply to many summer pre-medical program as possible, as many of you know medical programs are very competitive. I finally got accepted into the 10 week COPE Health Scholars Summer Pre-med Program in Seattle. I did not know there was a tuition cost of $7000 for the program thus, I couldn’t fully celebrate and enjoy the acceptance news. After speaking with a financial director of the program they offered very little assistance. They also estimated an additional living cost which is about $4000. There is no way I can work enough to save to cover the cost of the program from now until the due date of the payment.

I define success as achieving one’s goals and making one’s dreams come true. My goal is to become a medical doctor and my dream is to become part of group that is designed to help others in their time of need. I know that achieving these will take hard work, and believe that a strong and motivated environment will be invaluable in my success. The COPE Health Scholars Summer Pre-Med Program is the perfect fit for my personal strategy, including the clinical experience, networking opportunities, and intensive MCAT test preparations. This program will give me new insight about the healthcare environment. What made COPE scholars different than the other pre- medical programs I researched was summarized in the description of the program where it says, “an intense summer experience.” I was motivated by this challenge because I know that while this program will not be easy, I am confident that it will be worth the time I plan to put in.
